DESTINATIONS

There are several African countries to consider for a safari, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. For a first-time visit, the most popular destinations are Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Botswana.

East Africa - Kenya and Tanzania - is the home of safari (meaning a journey, in the Swahili language) and numerous well-organized safaris are available in both countries. Kenya is popular with the first-time visitor; the scenery is spectacular, the game-viewing is excellent, the facilities for tourism are sophisticated and many more types of safaris are on offer, compared to neighboring Tanzania. Tanzania's northern game sanctuaries are the country's biggest draw and they are magnificent, although not many lodges and camps have been built, compared to neighboring Kenya. Tanzania is a poor country, but its tourism infrastructure has improved significantly in the last few years.

Zimbabwe and Botswana are landlocked countries, each with its own particular allure. The lodges and tented camps are attractive, comfortable and well-run but neither country offers many opportunities for interesting contacts with tribal cultures; you will not see colorful tribal people here like the Masai of Kenya and Tanzania. We will be pleased to discuss the various alternatives, helping you choose the right destination(s) for you.

TYPES OF SAFARIS

• Old-style luxury tented safaris (individually-planned, or scheduled departures).
• Lodge tours, using the best small properties of character.
• Adventure safaris: trekking, on horseback, with camels, by boat, etc.
• Special interests: photo, cultures, birds, fishing, golf, etc.

Expect to see the greatest profusion of wildlife on earth including elephant, possibly rhino, Cape buffalo, lion, leopard (these are known as the Big Five), a host of other animals, the complete spectrum of existence from birth to death, prolific and colorful birds, lovely butterflies, fascinating trees, beautiful plants, majestic scenery, enchanting primitive tribes, delightful rainbows, bewitching mirages, golden sunsets, starry moonlit nights... the list goes on and on.

PRICES We do not offer budget safaris. The bitter memory of a bad trip remains long after the sweetness of an eye-catching low price is gone. As a guideline, our safaris start at around $ 6,000 per person (sharing twin-occupancy accommodation) for a two-week safari, not including the cost of international flights.
